Referendums held in the UK are not currently legally enforceable and parliament is under no duty to enact their results. MPs are elecred by the will of the people to represent the people, as such they must comply democratically with the demands of the people.
From time to time UK Governments hold referendums. Regardless of the outcome, the government is under no legal obligation to accept the outcome. This is entirely undemocratic and must change.
