Currently, newborn puppies, kittens, ferrets and fox cubs which are not needed for scientific research are put to sleep.

This is from an article in the Daily Mail, it is inhumane and disgusting, this government should be condemning this, not considering it. Using animals in laboratories is objectionable in any circumstance, this is further proof and is barbaric in the extreme.
