Closed petition Free sanitary products in homeless centres and open clinics.
Closed on
Having a period at home at the best of times isn't pleasant. Along with worrying about getting blood on clothing, women must battle cramps and a hormonal rollercoaster. Doing this as a homeless woman is far worse due to a lack in sanitary facilities and privacy.
We estimate that women spend around £5070 on their period between the ages of 12 and 51.
In addition sanitary products are considered luxury items so are subject to an additional 5% tax. Mens razors are not included in this luxury tax. Considered that a women will use an average of 11,000 tampons (alone) in their lifetime, can this really be justified?
