Automatic renewals are used extensively in the insurance market. They are not however confined to insurance services, and you may find things such as annual gym memberships and even dating agencies will automatically renew your contract and take money from your account without prior warning.

Many people I've spoken to have incurred bank charges as a result of auto renewal payments being declined due to there being insufficient funds in their accounts. In many instances this is due to those people having no knowledge that a payment was about to be taken without prior warning.
