Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2015-2017 parliament

Rejected petition Allow RNLI and Mountain Rescue volunteers to apply for the British Empire Medal.

Unpaid members of both the RNLI and Mountain Rescue Teams throughout the UK undertake rescues, often hazardous and in the worst of weather conditions. The British Empire Medal is an eminently appropriate means by which to recognise the selfless and life saving services provided by these volunteers.

More details

The British Empire Medal is "Awarded for a ‘hands-on’ service to the local community. This could be a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a relatively short duration (3 to 4 years) that has made a significant difference" {https://www.gov.uk/honours/types-of-honours-and-awards}.

It is proposed that unpaid civil and military Mountain Rescue and RNLI volunteers be able to apply for this medal following a period of 4 years verifiable service.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

There doesn't appear to be a rule that says that Mountain Rescue and RNLI volunteers can't apply for the British Empire Medal. We are therefore not sure what change you want to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
