Rejected petition All MPs to loose honorific 'The Right Honourable'.

MPs have to earn the honorific. All MPs required to render four years of continuous service during which time they have to actually prove themselves to be honourable. For example total transparency in expenses and donations received could count as proof.

More details

I believe the automatic right to this honorific has resulted in making it a joke and in many cases serves to mean the exact opposite. I propose that a MP has to serve a set period of time afer which the relevant CLP, after careful consideration of a set of criteria, bestow this honorific. We have to put honour back into the system and also hold our MPs to account.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Not all MPs are entitled to use the title "Right honourable". This is a title that may be used by members of the Privy Council. You can find out more about the Privy Council here:

http://privycouncil.independent.gov.uk/

Not all members of the Privy Council are MPs.

During debates, MPs refer to other MPs (if they are not members of the Privy Council) as "the honourable gentleman/lady" or "my honourable friend".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly how you would like the House of Commons to change the rules and conventions about how MPs refer to each other during debates.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
