Rejected petition Rerun the EU referendum allowing all UK resident EU citizens a vote.
Resident non-British EU citizens were denied a vote in the 2016 EU referendum whereas resident Commonwealth citizens were able to vote. I have a friend who is French and has lived in Edinburgh for over 20 years and was not allowed to vote. This smacks of gerrymandering.
More details
Resident non-British EU citizens were allowed to vote in the 2014 Scottish referendum so there is a precedent.
The narrow margin for leaving the EU was such that allowing all resident EU citizens to vote could have affected the result.
Either a rerun of the EU referendum, or an additional poll of non-British EU residents which would be added to the existing referendum result is requested.
