Rejected petition Support Brian Matthew, BBC Radio 2 DJ, Sounds of the 60s.
Brian Matthew 88 is Britain’s oldest regular radio presenter and has presented Sounds of the 60s for more than a quarter of a century. He's to be replaced by the BBC in a decision he described as "horrible".
We must support Brian.
More details
Brian has been off air for several weeks to recuperate from a fall.
The BBC say it has been mutually agreed that it was “the right time for him to step off the weekly treadmill of presenting the show” but this is not true as Brian was ready and willing and able to go back to work. “I enjoyed doing the show very much indeed. I did it for 25 years. I feel very disconcerted, I must say. I do admit I’m a bit of an antique, but that’s never seemed to matter until now".
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
