Rejected petition Change the law to set a legal minimum size for all car parking bays
Rejected on
There is no legal minimum bay size and only "guidance" appears to be set by local councils. This has led to a number of issues affecting drivers including:
-Inappropriate bays "squeezed in" to meet planning requirements
-PCN fines despite the bay size not fit-for-purpose
-Avoidable vehicle damage
Planning regulations often require a certain quantity of parking spaces but while they may also set sizing guidance, they do not enforce this quality (i.e. size) http://bit.ly/2mpKq0P
Which means car park operators issue fines because visually a car may appear to be breaking the rules, despite the fact that the bay itself does not meet the minimum guidance http://bit.ly/2mXiIvk
Car parking incidents now account for more than 30% of all accidents totalling £1.4bn per year http://bit.ly/2n7t6kH
