An enquiry is needed into the effectiveness of the government's own petition website. Does either parliament or government actually act on these petitions or merely go though the motions?

Having utilised this site for a while it appears that a responce is given laying out parliamentary opinion and later a "debate" confirms parliamentary opinion. This leave no compromise to public opinion and is, at worst undemocratic, and at best an exercise in futility.
