PCV holders or category D licence holders are able to drive any size bus e.g double deckers and bendy buses which can weigh in excess of 18 tonnes but cannot drive a vehicle which weighs less than half of this.

Driving people around in a bus or coach is much more difficult than driving a small lorry half the size of the vehicles I can drive which weighs up to 7.5 tonnes. Even to drive certain vans which can weigh 4.2 tonnes cannot be done if classed as a normal van but if classed as a minibus it can be driven but the size is no different and neither are the tachograph laws.
