This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
At the moment, there is no offence of "carjacking" to which a minimum sentence could apply. Someone stealing a car could be charged with the offence of robbery of a vehicle. Where there is also a threat of or use of violence, the offence can carry a maximum penalty of life.
You could start a new petition asking the UK Government or Parliament to create a new offence of carjacking with a minimum sentence of 10 years, if that's what you'd like to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
