This petition was submitted during the 2017–2019 Conservative government

Rejected petition Force a limit on the use of fireworks in residential areas.

Many animals find fireworks scary. Fireworks can also be scary/frightening for veterans who may be suffering from PTSD. Fireworks should not be used in a residential area to avoid causing animals/people distress.

There should be a limit as to how close fireworks can be to residential buildings

More details

It is estimated that 45 percent of dogs and other animals in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (RSPCA). This can include toileting indoors, shaking, barking and crying.

Fireworks should not be allowed in residential areas, and should only be allowed in a licensed settings on set days, not days or weeks before/after the event. There should be a limit as to how close you can be to a residential building before setting off fireworks

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We're not sure exactly what kind of a limit you would like on the use of fireworks in residential areas.

For example, we're not sure whether you'd like using fireworks to be completely banned in residential areas, or whether you would like it to be allowed as long as fireworks are a certain distance away from residential buildings. We're also not sure what you mean by "licensed settings", or on what days you'd like fireworks to be allowed.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
