Petition Extend VAT exemption for elderly/disabled peoples' domestic help in their homes

Since 2007 we have run a business supporting elderly/disabled people with domestic help, enabling them to remain safely and independently in their own homes.
Domestic Care companies should be able to offer a reputable service on a VAT exempt basis to make it more affordable to self funding clients.

More details

We wrote to our local MP, his reply states he agrees with the proposal.
The CQC web site details that only companies offering personal care can be regulated.VAT Notice 701/2 on HMRC web site confirms regulated group limitations.
Most personal care companies don't want to do domestic care and vice versa. The two services are very different but, both essential to the elderly/disabled.
Elderly people should not have to be taxed on a service which enables them to remain independently in their homes

Tell MPs about housing and older people

Have you or a family member recently moved home, are thinking about it, or have decided not to? If so, a committee of MPs would like to hear from you.

You can tell us whatever you think is important about your experience of housing for older people. You could also think about these questions:

· Have you moved home recently or are you thinking about it? If so, why?
· Have you thought about moving and then decided not to? Why?
· Do you know where to find out about moving house? Have you ever asked for advice?
· How have you found getting the money to move?
· Have you tried to adapt your home to make it more accessible? How did you do it? Did you try to get advice about how?
· How do you feel your home affects your health and wellbeing? Has your health and wellbeing changed after you moved house?

What is the Communities and Local Government Committee?

The Communities and Local Government Committee looks at and questions how the Government Department for Communities and Local Government:

•            is run
•            spends money
•            decides on its policies

It's a cross-party committee and is independent of the Government.
