This petition was submitted during the 2017–2019 Conservative government

Rejected petition Fine for no Insurance should be greater than Insurance cost.

With Courts fining them a lot less, it makes it beneficial to them to have no insurance as it works out cheaper for them.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The courts already have the power to give an unlimited fine for driving without car insurance. You can find out more here:

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/driving-without-insurance

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking the Government and Parliament to change the law to increase the fixed penalty that Police can give people who are caught driving without insurance, based on the current national average cost of car insurance, if that's what you want to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
