Closed petition CARIBBEAN DAY is recognized as AUGUST 1st

Closed on

The UK Caribbean community in several areas including politics, entertainment and sports is an integral part of a socially integrated modern Britain. This petition seeks that Parliament pronounce recognition that AUGUST 1st is a date of culture significance for the UK Caribbean community.

The Caribbean and its descendents have been part of Britain’s fortune for centuries. The wealth generated from the colonies provided national means prior to the Industrial Revolution; In the First World War the West Indies Regiment comprised of Caribbean volunteers joined with Britain in time of war and the Caribbean community was present again for WW2, and after Caribbean immigrants answered the call to rebuild Britain’s labour, health and transportation services economy. A day of remembrance.
