Rejected petition Bring back self cert mortgages

If someone is paying £1,000 in rent each month, is it reasonable to assume that they can afford £500 mortgage repayments?
There are people out there with LTVs of 50 per cent that still can’t get a mortgage.
I’m asking to bring back sensible, common sense lending .
