Rejected petition Petition for the media to stop using the term “Asian” when describing criminals.
This petition is for the media to stop using the word “Asian” when describing criminals and their crimes. This generalises all Asian religions, and confuses non Asian people as to true identity or ethnic background of individuals, creating hostile environments and unsettlement amongst communities.
More details
A perfect example is of a Sikh man, whose turban was pulled off outside parliament in 2018, whilst attacker shouted “Muslims go back”. A lack of knowledge for the public and generalisation in media, is creating unsettling environments.
