Closed petition Stop incineration of any waste which could be recycled. No new incinerators!
Closed on
Incinerators are fuelled with domestic and commercial rubbish that has not had everything recyclable or biodegradable taken out e.g. food waste and plastics. We want 1. Legislation to stop waste of material resources. 2. Waste reduction, reuse and recycling to be made absolute top priority in law.
Incinerators (known as gasification, pyrolysis, EfW, ATT or ACT plants) produce air pollutants. These are a concern for public health: https://laqm.defra.gov.uk/assets/63091defraairqualityguide9web.pdf
A cross party Early Day motion signed by 19 MPs calls for a moratorium on incineration: https://www.parliament.uk/edm/2017-19/581
We ask that p.94 of this plan be put into law: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/673203/25-year-environment-plan.pdf):
