Child maintenance is calculated on Gross Pay, rather than Net income. What you are paid and what you take home are very different amounts. Based on Gross, you pay far more child maintenance than you can afford.

Paying on your net pay (what you actually see in your bank account) would mean you pay a fair amount of child maintenance. Not a hugely inflated figure, but a right and just amount.
