Rejected petition It should be illegal for politician's to lie in parliament or to the electorate.

Recent history has suggested that our politicians deliberately tell lies or make knowingly false statements both in Parliament and during hustings etc. E.G, false claims regarding what might happen to recovered money following Bexit and inconsistencies around the rationale for the 2nd Iraq war.

More details

A politician cannot represent the people who elect them if they are in that position due to making false claims or promises. Likewise once in Parliament the British people should have a reasonable expectation that those who are in place to represent them do so with honesty and integrity. In his opening sentence to the Electoral Matters Committee, reporting on Politicians and Honesty Julian Burnside, said, "Honesty and candour in politicians are central to the proper functioning of a democracy"
