Exam boards say that the new 9-1 GCSE exams are 'not a memory test' but rather 'an assessment of skill'. However, students are not given formulae and studied literature texts in exams, thus making them memory tests. This puts unnecessary pressure on students, and leads to deteriorated mental health.
