Closed petition Stop the ageist segregation in minimum wage. Living costs are all the same.

Closed on

Their are four segratory categories to minimum wage. 16-17, 18-20, 21-24 and over 25. The hourly minimum difference between what a 16 year old can earn to a 25 year old is £3.63. If they were working a full time week consisting of 40 hours thats an overall anual difference of £6,969.60.

For a 16 and 25 year old working full time, doing the same job on minimum wage their annual differential income is £6,969.60. The guardian quotes: “A single person living in Britain needs to earn at least £13,400 a year before tax to afford a basic but acceptable standard of living” however for a sixteen year old on minimum wage working 40 hours per week will earn an average anual salary of £8,064. That’s only 60.17% of what is recommended for a stable income and living.
