Rejected petition Make body-shaming on all social media platforms illegal.

Every day, people of all shapes and sizes face cruel comments other people make about their bodies. While some people find it easy to block and ignore, such abuse can lead to depression, self-harm and even suicide. We want to help make social media platforms a safe space free from body-shaming.

More details

"Body-shaming statistics indicate that 94 percent of teenage girls have been body shamed. However, the practice isn’t exclusive to the female gender. Teen boys and men are subjected to thoughtless opinions and hurtful comments made as well. Nearly 65 percent of teens boys reported having been body shamed. Like with many aspects of bullying, “keyboard courage” plays a big role in those who make hurtful and derogatory comments toward others online." - bullyingstatistics.org

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about online abuse, but we're not sure exactly what you mean by "make body-shaming on all social media platforms illegal". For example, we're not exactly what behaviour you'd like to be defined as body-shaming.
