Rejected petition Guarantee that all children have the fundamental right to be physically active.

Rejected on

The Sport and Recreation Alliance believes government must embed this fundamental right in all policy, regulations and legislation.

The repeated failure of successive governments to meaningfully acknowledge the critical role which physical activity can play in promoting good mental and physical health and in tackling childhood obesity, is why we have launched the #RightToBeActive campaign.

All political parties need to commit to guaranteeing the fundamental right to be active. This is a vital long-term step that will enable children and young people to be active for the future development of our society, health and economy.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand that you'd like to introduce a right to be active, but we are not clear how you would like to do this or who it would apply to.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a petition to set a minimum amount of time devoted to physical activity as part of the national curriculum.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
