Rejected petition Protect BBC political programming

Recent proposals mean that political broadcast content is going to be severely cut back on the BBC. This content is a crucial resource for understanding and learning about politics. We live in uncertain and unstable times and the BBC's focus on politics should be increased rather than cut back.

More details

The proposals include cancellation of the national Sunday Politics programme on BBC One, and on BBC Parliament the withdrawal of all political programming outside sittings of Parliament and the devolved parliaments and assemblies.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

You might like to write to the BBC to make this suggestion.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
