Rejected petition Treat abuse of agricultural and rural businesses as a hate crime.

Hate crime is “ a crime motivated by prejudice and typically involves violence or the threat of it”. This typifies the abuse received by many farms and businesses in the countryside. Too often it’s ignored but this needs to be addressed as seriously as any other form of hate crime.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We are not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

The Crown Prosecution Service defines hate crime as criminal activity where the perpetrator is motivated by hostility or demonstrates hostility towards the victim's disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. These categories are set out in law:

You could start a new petition calling for a change in the law for crimes based on hostility to someone's place or type of employment to be considered hate crime if that is something you would like to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
