Rejected petition Unban the Iceland advert on unsustainable deforestation for palm oil.
Iceland recently released a tv advert highlighting the relevant problem that is unsustainable deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia in order to farm palm oil. This in turn led to a drastic drop in the population of Orangutans who rely on such forests to survive. They are now an endangered species.

This advert should not be banned as it is bringing awareness to a problem that the general public may have otherwise been unaware of and therefor enables people to make informed choices about their personal purchases.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The decision was taken by Clearcast, who are a private organisation. They preclear adverts on behalf of broadcasters before they appear on television.
You can find their statement here:
Broadcast adverts are covered by the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising. The rules on political advertising are the responsibility of Ofcom, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition calling for changes to the way advertising is regulated in the UK if that is something you would like to see happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
