When people hear diabetes they mostly think of type 2 which is a far less serious condition. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, which as no known cause and no cure, sufferes have enough to deal with without the added stigma and lack of understanding of the word diabetes.
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very different conditions, usually in the media there is a lot of negativity around type 2 diabetes mostly they just describe this as diabetes and as there is a lack of education about the differences, it causes unnessary upset to a lot of type 1’s
