Rejected petition Make it a criminal offence to persecute anyone displaying a union flag in public
During a sport event in Manchester, a man wearing a Union Jack waist coat was man handled by security because someone found it offensive. It should be made a criminal offence as a hate crime to persecute anyone wearing, showing or flying a Union flag or a flag of any country within the union.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
It is already illegal to discriminate against someone on the grounds of their nationality under the Equality Act 2010. If someone commits an offence on the grounds of their nationality this may also be considered a hate crime. You can find out more here:

It would be for the courts to decide if a crime had been committed in a particular case.
You could start a new petition setting out clearly the change you would like to see in the law.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
