Closed petition Provide adoption allowance to self-employed people

Closed on

Self employed people who give birth to a child are entitled to maternity allowance, however a self employed person who wishes to adopt a child is not entitled to adoption allowance! This allowance is currently only available for employed people!

An independent review, led by leading entrepreneur Julie Deane, OBE recommends that self-employed adopters should have a statutory entitlement to a minimum level of income if they are unable to work because they are adopting a child. (Adoption UK)

Self employment is increasing and reports show that adoption rates are falling despite there being an increase in Children needing families.

I am calling on the government to readdress the inequality faced by self employed adopters.
