Rejected petition Give patients the option to see a same-sex doctor for sensitive appointments.

Patients can usually request to see a doctor of the same gender when booking medical appointments on their own accord, but this petition calls for medical providers to give their patients agency on who they are seen by for sensitive appointments such as breast checks and pap smears.

More details

This petition calls for patients to be directly asked whether they are comfortable with seeing a doctor of the opposite sex at the booking stage.
This is to protect patients from a range of backgrounds that would experience extreme discomfort or anxiety in vulnerable situations. It would also to save the NHS time and money when appointments need to be cancelled for this reason.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

We understand you are concerned about ensuring patients can see a doctor of the same sex, but we aren't sure exactly what change you would like to see.

Patients have the right to ask to see a male or female GP where that is a possibility:

You could start a new petition asking the Government to give patients the right to see a doctor of the same sex in any medical setting if that is something you would like to see happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
