Closed petition Establish a dedicated unit to investigate ‘historic’ domestic abuse
Closed on
The offence of ‘Controlling or Coercive behaviour’ came into force 29/12/2015, however, abuse received before that date may go unpunished, even when Police are given evidence such as personal diaries, photos of injuries and hospital reports that suggest criminal behaviour.
Victims feel robbed of justice and their dignity, whilst themselves (and their children) suffer lifelong physical, economic and emotional damage, including PTSD. Victims now wish to be able to report this abuse to Police, to be believed and to be taken seriously. Where possible, prosecution should take place.
Let us allow victims a voice, give justice a chance by investigating historic domestic abuse, preventing abusers from reoffending therefore saving innocent victims from future abuse.
