Closed petition Routinely test pregnant women for Group B Strep

Closed on

Staphylococcus aureus and Group B Streptococcus are common infections. However, in rare cases they can be fatal for the unborn baby, and for up until 12 weeks after a baby is born if they develop a late onset of symptoms. Both of these infections are easily treated by antibiotics.

Antibiotics are given during the mother’s labour and antibiotics are given to baby once born. These infections are easily picked up by a swab and are easily treated also. This should be a routine test that ALL pregnant women should be able to get during pregnancy to ensure the health and safety of both mum and baby.
