Closed Use Belfast for the maintenance of the UK carrier fleet.

The dry dock facilities in Belfast (BDD) are some of the largest in Europe and are under-utilised. They would be ideal for use in the long-term maintenance of the UK's two Aircraft Carriers. Minimal cost modifications would be required for accommodation and workshops.

The UK Government must analyse the costs of using Belfast Dry Dock (BDD) rather than Portsmouth for the maintenance of the UK carrier fleet and publish the results.

The Government currently plans to spend £1 billion pounds to build a brand new dock in Portsmouth of similar size to the one that already exists in Belfast.
