Closed petition Smoke alarms should be a legal requirement in homes with children

Closed on

No parent would knowingly risk the life of their child, but too many don't realise the importance of smoke alarms. We continue to read about children perishing and it must stop. Primary Times is campaigning for working smoke alarms to be a legal requirement on every floor in a child's home.

• As reported in the government casualties in fire dataset, published November 2018, over 32% of all fire related incidents indicated no smoke detection present (Source: https://data.gov.uk/dataset/f7ccba2d-f679-46e1-8d6d-de7bee690d40/fire-statistics-fatalities-and-casualties)

• There are 18.9 million family households with children in the UK (source: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/families/bulletins/familiesandhouseholds/2016)
