Rejected petition Women who falsely accuse men of rape or sexual assault should be sent to prison.

Rejected on

Recently there’s been a lot of incidents where women have falsely accused men of sexual assault or rape and they have got away with it whilst the defendant is charged and in prison. In most cases the false charges have ruined lives. I think that this is absurd and that women should be charged.

Women who accuse someone falsely shouldn’t be able to carry on in there day to day life whilst the defendant is doing time for a crime he did not commit.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Making a false allegation of a crime may already in some circumstances lead to a jail sentence - for example, if someone is found guilty of perverting the course of justice. In other cases, people who are accused of making false accusations may be prosecuted for wasting police time. We're not sure what else you'd like Parliament and Government to do.

In any case, we can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The police and the CPS are responsible for deciding whether to charge people with a crime.

You may find this guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service helpful:
