Closed petition Legislate a Less Lethal Firearms license for civilians

Closed on

A Less Lethal Firearms license should be legislated for civilians to purchase, possess, open carry and use PAVA Spray and/or a Taser.

This should be accompanied by a Firearms Act 2020 amendment with Section 5 exemptions for civilians with a license.

In the wake of increasing violent crime and strain on the Police Service, civilians with jobs such as Security Guards, Doormen, Delivery Guards and Neighbourhood Patrol groups should have a lawful right to a low risk form of OCW (Open Carry Weapon) for use in defence, escape and citizens arrests with lower casualty risks when confronted with physical violence.

Security checks and training in correct and lawful use should be mandatory before purchase and ownership of a Taser or PAVA Spray.
