Closed petition Stop the rebuilding of the Edmonton incinerator
Closed on
Since the rebuilding of the Edmonton incinerator was approved in 2017 by BEIS, significant new evidence has emerged on the devastating impacts of poor air quality, especially on children and babies, as well as on the urgent need to reduce waste and tackle climate change.
The London Assembly: Burning waste takes materials out of the circular economy, releases carbon into the atmosphere and may have negative health effects… ..Investing in more EfW [incineration] can negatively affect long term recycling rates…incineration should not be exempt from London’s ambition to improve air quality. It is essential that London burns less organic and plastic waste, as well as recyclable materials.
