David Steel has admitted that he assumed that the late Cyril Smith MP committed acts of child abuse but did not report it as he said "It was nothing to do with me."

Steel made his revelation during an Independent Enquiry into Child Abuse on 13 March 2019. Steel has been suspended by the Liberal Democrat party. By his own evidence, he is complicit in failing to report this abuse and if he had reported it to the authorities, many children may have been saved from the abuse. Steel is unfit to hold any title and should have his knighthood and peerage revoked.
