Rejected petition Save "Late Junction" on BBC radio 3
Rejected on
For nearly 20 years "Late Junction" on BBC radio 3 has provided wide exposure for experimental music of many genres from around the world.
The BBC is now proposing reducing airtime from three nights per week to one.
The proposed reduction of airtime represents a reduction of the cultural diversity incumbent on our primary public service broadcaster.
This petition urges the BBC to at least retain the current level of airtime for Late Junction, and ideally expand its ethos of access to experimental music.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
