Closed petition Make the House of Commons Commission end the subsidy of food and all drink.

Closed on

In a time when it has been deemed that free school meals for all infants are too expensive and the numbers of families in absolute poverty has risen, I feel it is time that all those at the Palace of Westminster pay the full cost of food and drink (including bars and restaurants).

Previous arguments against price rises have been that cuts were made and the subsidy covers everyone who works at and visits the House of Commons. It is also argued that MPs make up a relatively small group of consumers, with many low-paid or shift-based workers and visitors benefiting. This is true, but if we can cut free school meals because too many relatively comfortable/wealthy families benefit, the same logic applies here. They should pay the same prices that we all do for food and drink.
