Closed petition Call for the PM to set up a judge-led inquiry into Knife Crime in the UK
Closed on
I am calling on the Prime Minister to exercise powers under the Inquiries Act 2005 to set up a judge-led inquiry into knife crime challenges in the UK to ensure that victims and practitioners alike have confidence in the policy and procedure to tackle the menace of knife crime in our community.
As of 3rd April 2019, there have been over 20 fatalities from stabbings in London alone.
In the year ending March 2018, there were around 40,100 (selected) offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales alone. Figures from London's Metropolitan police showed that knife crime surged by 16 per cent in the capital year-on-year in 2018, as Britain's crime epidemic continues.
The purpose of this judge led public inquiry is to identify lasting solutions to the surge of knife crime.
