Petition Declare a climate and ecology emergency, with urgent new measures and targets.

The UK is missing its 2020 nature targets, yet the situation couldn't be more urgent. The government must declare a state of emergency, with leadership from a Citizens’ Assembly, and take urgent new measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero and halt biodiversity loss.

More details

In October the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stressed the urgency of preventing global warming from exceeding 1.5C. The consequences are drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions.

In March 2019, government advisers reported that the UK will miss almost all its 2020 nature targets. We are failing to protect threatened species, end degradation of land, reduce agricultural pollution or increase funding for green schemes.

Urgent action is needed now.
