Closed petition Increase Masters Funding
Closed on
At present funding for master courses is prohibitively low. Although the government provides a loan of £10,906 to fund the study of these courses, some masters can exceed £19,000 for tuition alone, leaving students in a position where this level of education is financially inaccessible.
For many fields, such as law, a master's degree or equivalent is a prerequisite for entering the profession, yet due to a lack of funding, many students cannot afford to undertake the necessary qualifications. This means that despite a student's intellectual ability, they will be incapable of pursuing a career in this field because of their socio-economic background. This abject inequality is hampering social mobility and making some career paths only open to those who can afford it.
