Closed petition Expedite the passage of the Physician Associate (Regulations) Bill 2017-19.
Closed on
Physician Associates (PA) work to the medical model under supervision, just like junior doctors. The bill regulates the profession and protects the public. It should be amended to grant the same prescribing and imaging rights to PAs as junior doctors with similar experience.
The value of PAs is not being fully realized as the inability to prescribe or order ionizing radiation images, both of which they are trained to do, prevents their full use for the patient's benefit.
Currently PA's register is voluntary and managed by the Royal College of Physicians. They are seen to enhance patient care by the doctors they work with.
Swift passage of the bill will protect the title and public from unqualified people using the title, as happened with Paramedics.
