This petition was submitted during the 2017–2019 Conservative government

Rejected petition Automatic by-election triggered if any MP joins/forms another political party.

If a MP joins/forms another political party other than the one they were voted in with, they are going against their constituents wishes as they are standing on a manifesto that was not wanted by the constituents.

More details

Over two-thirds of the people of Streatham voted Labour in the 2017 General Election, and since then their Member of Parliament has formed a new political party, left that political party, and now looks set to join the Liberal Democrat’s, when less than 10% of constituents wanted a LibDem representative.

Anna Soubry and Heidi Allen both stood (and were voted in on) manifestos to act on the referendum results from 2016, yet they have since joined a party that pledges not to do this.
