Closed petition Make the government migrate all state owned vehicles to electric when replaced

Closed on

The British government and state departments own & operate fleets of hundreds of thousands of vehicles. The majority of these are diesel, with just a small proportion of electric vehicles. We would like the government to switch to electric vehicles at every possible opportunity, upon lease renewal

The government collectively has huge buying power over the motor market, and should use this as a force for good, to reduce the volume of fossil-fuel based vehicles entering the market, and to drive down the cost of electric vehicles.

They should also exert influence over the range of cars offered in the Motability scheme.

If all possible vehicles switched to electric upon their next replacement date, this would also eventually create a buoyant second-hand market for electric vehicles.
