Closed petition Make CPR a compulsory part of the secondary school curriculum
Closed on
CPR is a crucial skill that saves thousands of lives every year. You don’t even need to be a medical professional to learn it. It is a simple, effective skill that can be the difference between life and death in many situations. It should be taught in all secondary schools across the country.
In the UK there are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests a year where the emergency medical services attempt to resuscitate the victim.
However, the survival rate is dismal – in England just 1 in 11 patients survive to be discharged from hospital and only 1 in 12 survive in Scotland.
In countries like Norway where CPR is already more widely taught in schools, survival rates as high as 1 in 4 have been reported.
