Rejected petition A ban on Christmas appearing in streets, shops and malls until December only

Christmas creep is a merchandising phenomenon in which retailers introduce Christmas-themed merchandise or decorations before the holiday season.
We are often still in our flip-flops and shorts when the first signs of Christmas start appearing in early September.

More details

To preserve the specialness of Christmas time for those who love it, and to save those for whom it is truly awful from frustration, we need legislation to prevent retailers from imposing Christmas on us too early.

Let's restrict Christmas to December only.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We're not sure exactly what you mean by Christmas appearing in streets, but decisions about when to advertise or promote particular product lines, or decorate shops, would be for individual retailers rather than the Government or Parliament.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
